2011 WIMA Pink Ribbon Ride

Protecta is proud to be on board with WIMA once again, as a principal sponsor of their 2011 Pink Ribbon motorcycle charity ride. The annual Pink Ribbon ride is a popular event on the motorcycle calendar, with rides taking place in Auckland and Wellington, and the funds raised going to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. 

This year’s Auckland event was held on Sunday the 2nd of October, 2011.  Click through to read our 2011 Pink Ribbon Ride Report! 

Wellington's ride is being held on the 16th of October, 2011, with the bikes departing at 11:00am and riding from Wellington Motorcycles at 12 Kent Terrace, to the Sandbar Pub, 103 Mana Esplanade, Mana, Porirua.

Who are WIMA? 

WIMA is the Women’s International Motorcycling Association, whose aim is to promote and encourage women in motorcycling, regardless of interest or level of participation. Since the 1950’s, WIMA has provided a network of friends and support for women in New Zealand from all walks of life who share a common interest in motorbikes. Whether you're a pillion, a racer, a learner or a long time rider with many miles under her belt, WIMA welcomes all - please visit the WIMA website to find out more. 

WIMA have been supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with their annual Pink Ribbon motorcycle ride since 2004, with each year’s event out-doing the last. In 2010, over 540 motorcyclists attended, with approximately $18,000 being raised for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. 

Protecta Insurance’s Involvement 

Protecta Insurance first became aware of the WIMA Pink Ribbon rides after some of our employees had attended a ride and seen first-hand the excellent work being done. Protecta has now been involved in five Pink Ribbon Rides (since 2007), providing volunteers and prize give-aways for the events, as well as funding, marketing, and advertising resources. As a year-round supporter of WIMA, Protecta is also involved in the printing of WIMA’s member magazine, and provides discounts on motorcycle insurance for WIMA members. 

As a Kiwi company, we here at Protecta love the can-do attitude of the WIMA team, and the strong community spirit they show. Protecta is very proud to be partnered with WIMA, and we enjoy being given the opportunity to support WIMA in the excellent work they do within the community.
